As cannabis and technology collide together, we will continue to see a push for innovation primarily geared towards ancillary products. And there is one company who is taking the industry by storm with their little to no regards to orthodoxy and design limitations. Cloudious9, a next generation developer, and manufacturer of vaporizer products has founded their path by bringing three important aspects together;
1) Their diverse knowledge from outside the traditional limits of the vaping industry
2) Their drive to innovate
3) Their passionate focus on aesthetic design.
Their signature products, the Hydrology9 showcases just that.
We had the opportunity to chat with Richard Huang, President of Cloudious9 to learn more behind the development of the Hydrology9.
How did Hydrology9 evolve?
The creation of the Hydrology9 was not the result of a “lightbulb” moment of innovation, but rather one of continuous observation of the existing vaporizers on the market and revision of our ideas to satisfy what the vaporizer industry lacks. We went through countless hours of interviews with long time vaporizer users and eventually realized there is a lack of a truly integrated portable liquid filtration vaporizer.
Creating a truly unique vaporizer required us to think entirely outside the scope of existing vaporizers on the market. This meant solving new challenges and having no prior reference resolution for a new problem that others have never tackled. The results are a brand new approach to dealing with liquid filtration, and thus the birth of our patent pending “tunnel tube” liquid filtration design and “even heat distribution stir.”
Vaporizers with any liquid filtration capability usually implement it as an add-on, and the entire device is not specifically optimized for liquid filtration. The results are inconveniences from numerous moving parts and a lack of a truly portable solution. After identifying this void, Cloudious9 was set on a mission to create a disruptive product for an industry that longed for innovation.
Creating a new vaporizer solution without anything similar on the market also prevented our product design team from being clouded by competitors’ design concepts, since we have no identical competitor. This allows our design team to unleash our creativity and bring to the world our widely acclaimed exterior design.
After studying the market for a while, we were puzzled and wondered why there was little to no focus on building a water filter built-in the vaporizer.
However, at the end of the day, we kind of know why; the reason is because when companies like Pax are so successful, it’s hard to deviate from the concept that the vaporizer has to be as small as possible and as discreet as possible. Adding water adds a certain degree of complication that no one has tackled before and no one really wants to address because it goes against the norm of being ultra-light and portable. As a new company in the space, we don’t have the choice we have to take a risk and do what others don’t do. Also it may seem kind of limiting or “niche” but that is what a new company is supposed to do.
When did Cloudious9 launch?
One thing about our team is that we are not from the industry so this is our first introduction to the cannabis industry. We thought of the concept two years ago, and throughout that time it took a lot of revisions and feedback to get to the design we have now.
Please share a little more information on your background and the team’s experience.
I founded an e-commerce company about 10 years ago, and to be honest found myself bored, a couple of years ago which is where the interest of creating something that could elevate the innovation in a new industry. One of our employees’s from our e-commerce division has really helped me out a lot during this process including packaging, graphic design, and social media management. Slowly, I look to migrate some of my team members over from my e-commerce operation to help build out a strong team as Cloudious9 grows. At this time, I have no other partners or management at the moment but certainly, hope I can find the right like-minded hard working individuals in the future.
Any hidden “easter eggs”?
We don’t have any “easter eggs” in this first product. Currently we are working on two new devices, each in a different area and at a different stage, however being it is still too early I don’t want to announce any specification just yet. I have learned that the direction can change very quickly especially throughout the development stage.
Outside of the “easter egg”s, we are working on some perks during the launch for everyone that has been following us from early on.
What is your personal favorite feature on the Hydrology9?
The feature that I am most proud of and thus my favorite is the ability to stick to our portable water filtration element while at the same time making it look great. I know that is not a single feature, but portable water filtration is a tough feature to make it look great, but we found a way to accommodate it.
